Barry Katz owned and operated highly successful pharmacies in Miami, Florida for over 17 years. After selling his pharmacies in 1993, he became Director of Pharmacy for CareFlorida, a Florida based HMO. In 1994, Foundation Health Systems (now HealthNet) acquired CareFlorida and Katz became National Vice President of Operations for Integrated Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (IPS), a full service pharmacy benefits management company and wholly-owned Foundation subsidiary covering over 16 million lives. He worked in all aspects of pharmacy benefit management including contracting, clinical programs, utilization review and sales. In 1999, he co-founded HMN Health Services, Inc., a pharmacy benefit management company, as the Senior Vice President of Operations. AdvancePCS (now owned by CVS/Caremark) acquired FFI and HMN in July of 2000. Katz continued to operate in his position during the acquisition until December, 2001. In 2002, he cofounded Envision Pharmaceutical Services (EnvisionRx) with two colleagues and the company created the first transparent, full disclosure PBM model in the industry. Katz ran operations for the company which grew exponentially to revenues of $5B annually until Katz and partners sold EnvisionRx to private equity company, TPG, in November 2013. He then took the position as Vice Chairman of the Board of the new company. He held that position until June 2015, when the company was sold to Rite Aid Pharmacy and he retired from the Board. Katz is presently president of Sandbar Holding, LLC, an investment and venture capital company dedicated to technology development in retail and healthcare. Barry Katz has a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Pharmacy, both from the University of Florida.
